EB-5 IMMIGRANT INVESTOR PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS
The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program was created in 1990 to further the development of businesses in the United States and to create and preserve jobs for American workers. Also known as the Regional Center Program, EB-5 visas are set aside specifically for applicants who invest in commercial enterprises in regional centers approved by USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) to promote economic growth. As of March, 6 2017, USCIS has approved 880 regional centers.
According to USCIS, there are two key qualifications that must be met for one to apply for and obtain an EB-5 visa under the Immigrant Investor Program:
The applicant must invest in a commercial enterprise in the U.S.; and
The applicant must plan to create or keep at least 10 permanent, full-time jobs for U.S. workers.
A commercial enterprise may include any for-profit activity created to lawfully conduct business in the U.S. This may include sole proprietorships, partnerships, joint ventures, holding companies, corporations, business trusts, or other entities.
